RESULTS FROM THE WINTER LEAGUE AT MAYLANDS GOLF CLUB

Apologies for the delay - had to go to work!    Ian Moore (what a good golfer you are Ian!) won our first competition of 2012. Ian an amateur from Maylands had a first class 68 -3 score to win by 2 shots from Johnnie Fryatt, Mark Stokes and Mark Hooper who had -1 70's. All fantastic scores as that course didn't play that easy today with its eclectic mix of half frozen greens.      Notwithstanding, we had a brilliant field of over 30 players today - it was a good day.  Here's the rest:

RESULTS FROM THE GEOFFREY BURNS SALVER AT LORDS

The weather forecast was ghastly for today but amazingly we all got round Lords Dukes Course in a dry state.   The course played extremely well and was presented beautifully.   A massive thank you to Captain Phil Cherry and all the members at Lords for supporting this day so brilliantly.   This day was also in aid of Phil's Captain's Charity and he told me that he has raised £19,000 for BLISS this year (Bliss supports those little ones who have been born prematurely so what a fabulous charity this is to support).  The golf was stunning particularly from Mark Baker with his 7 birdie - 6 score of 66 four shots ahead of joint second place Steve Cipa and Andy Pestell on -3 70.  Mention must go to the team winners Steve Cipa with Tony Brown, Martin Stone and Andy Ludgate with a record breaking - 21 score of 125 - wow!     Here's the rest of the results:

THE MULALLEY ESSEX OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

After 36 holes, our Championship was tied between Roger Gray and Matt King - so off to a play off we went.    On the third extra hole, Matt took his title of Essex Open Champion for the first time - Matt so very well done - you are truly a great player.   Commiserations to Roger Gray of Thorndon Park -it would have been so good to have taken the trophy back to TPGC wouldn't it Rog.    Must not forget the amazing perfomrance of Jordan Wallace from Maylands who had a brilliant 73 and 71 to come tied 6th in the Championship.     Such a great tournament - Luke you are now officially my best friend together with Richard Herring - both of you worked so hard along with all at Orsett GC with Captain Steve McAnnally and his wife Bev who is also Lady Captain at the helm  - such a good tournament - thank you Steve very much for allowing us to invade your club and course over the last couple of days..

RESULTS FROM THE SPRING FAYRE AT COLCHESTER

Fabulous day all round - despite it being very early in the season those Colchester greens look full of eastern promise for the summer - they are going to be FAB.   Major thanks to all at the Club as usual - Captain Dickie Bockenham, Secretary Julie, Catering Brenda, bar staff , the two Marks of course as well as Chris - and not forgetting our President JV - you all put on a grand show for us today         Our Colchester based boys seem to be very happy with the conditions as we had joint winners for the absolutely unique JV Jug - donated by our dear President JV Wright - (me thinks it should have been renamed JV's  Joint Jugs on this occasion!)   Mark Baker and Mark Stokes had great scores of 67 a piece - both scores included an amazing 5 birdies.     In second place was Head Pro at Colchester Mark Angel with 68.   Absolutely delighted for all of you guys!   Here's the rest:

RESULTS FROM THE MATCH VERSUS THE LADIES AT THORNDON PARK

Well, this was how we were thinking.    Those girls of Brenda's are so good now - they are all young (very young!), their highest handicap was 4 I believe so they are all very good players indeed.   And we thought they needed a challenge  so we put them off the yellow tees at Thorndon this time!    But boy, did those girls  raise their game - we beat them (thank goodness!) but only by two games - so jolly well done the girls  - you are all amazingly good - our Essex Pro's were impressed.      So just the detail after halving the morning foursomes, despite a couple of halves early on in the field, we were able to take 5 wins combined with 3 losses to win the game 8 1/2 to 6 1/2/    Than you Brenda - we hope you all enjoyed the match - there will be some pictures on the site soon.   Major thanks to Captain Luke Eggleston, Roger Gray, Mark Stokes, Mark Talbott, Aaron Quinn, James Smith, Matt Stables, Jason Levermore, Andy Pestell and Graham Burroughs for taking part today - you're all champion!.

RESULTS FROM THE WINTER LEAGUE AT MAYLANDS GOLF CLUB

It was really great to see Robbie Coles in the field at a very cold Maylands - unfortunately we couldn't twist his arm to play in the ladies match at Thorndon the following week !- but nonetheless we all congratulate Robbie on his fantastic 2nd place at the Avantha Masters in Delhi, India last week.   However, fresh from Disneyworld in Florida, Jason squeezed out a 1 under score of 70 to win by 1 shot from trainee Chris Cutchie from Colchster and Bradley Smith from Hainault with their solid level rounds of 71 to take joint 2nd.    Here's the rest:

RESULTS FROM THE HINTLESHAM HALL PRO/AM FEBRUARY 24TH

For one moment today, I thought I had morphed into the Suffolk PGA Secretary - there was just so many Suffolk pros and amateurs at Hintlesham.     Super day though, topped with Spring like conditions as long as one could overlook the ground - just so glad we weren't playing yesterday.   Former EPGA member, Henry Roblin's club was excellent - we will be back Henry!        So, Suffolk boys came out on top I am afraid (I am counting Roly as a Tractor boy, even though he's in Essex - I know what I'm talking about even if no-one else does) but loads of unexpected Order of Merit points for my boys! - Oh! I  forgot Danny Barton had six, yes six, birdies ................... Here's the results now:

Individual Pro

1st Roly Hitchcock (Stoke by Nayland) 68 -4

RESULTS FROM THE PORTUGESE POR/AM - FEBRUARY 14TH - 19TH

Think of the best course you have ever played with the best ever facilities and service - well double that and then times by 10 and you have the fabulous Monte Rei where we were privileged to play two of our pro/am rounds last week.      Day 1 of the competition was on the tight Vila Sol Golf Course, Day 2 at Monte Rei in the most superb playing conditions, Day 3 back at MR but this time it was with at least a 3 club wind - that course was a monster particularly particularly for our pros who were playing on a course measuring over 7,200 yards.      Overall though,  brilliant atmosphere, loads of laughs and major mikey taking of a certain person - our Paul ("call me 8 balls") Hills can take it!     Matt Stables was top individual professional and he also steered his team of Paul Hills, Glen Llangenberg  and John Doe to overall team victory too.    Heartfelt thanks to all our ever supportive professionals of Matt, Mark Stokes,  Johnnie Fryatt and Jack Clarke and their fabulousamateur guests who joined us.   There's a few pictures on the Pro's Page .

RESULTS FROM THE WINTER LEAGUE AT WANSTEAD GOLF CLUB

Apart from the pig awful journey to get to Wanstead and the rather unpredictable gusty wind, we had a really good day at Wanstead Golf Club.     It has been a long time since Essex PGA have been at the club and we received a brilliant welcome from everyone - those were the best bacon sarnies in the county guys!.      Nigel Kerridge's dad assisted our dear boy Joe on the 1st tee and we thank them both for that - Nigel, I was hearing lots of stories about you from you Dad!   We had an amazing field of 30 players - both pro and low amateur - I was so pleased.    The only bad thing to happen was that Charlie Clare from Boyce ran out of balls on the 17th and sadly didn't submit his card - sorry matey you shoundn't have told me that story!!   Here's what happened:

Individual Professional

1st Steve Cipa (South Essex) 66 - 3 9 OOM Points

2nd Jason Levermore (Clacton) 68 -2 6 OOM Points

Joint 3rd Mark Stokes (Rayleigh DR) and Johnnie Fryatt (Thorpe Hall ) 70   +1   4.5 OOM Pts Each

RESULTS FROM THE AGM FOURBALL BETTER AT CHANNELS JANUARY 13TH, 2011

At last, we were back on the golf course.   A great turnout for the golf and sadly not as many attended the AGM.    Scott said his goodbyes (Scott you were such a great Captain) and Luke Eggleston now proudly wears that special badge for the next year - Luke please get your good lady to sew it on your blazer!   No hang on, why don't you see Nigel at Centregolf in Rayleigh - he is the  jacket expert!     Andy Pestell and Wes Wray had a blistering 62 and in joint second place were Mark Stokes and Christian Foreman - Christian also answers to the name of Christine apparently - you won't live that one down Christian! with Paul Barham and David Wood on 66.    We had a very lively AGM with some really good input from the attendees - I now have to try to remember what was said.! Most importantly, Brian White our PGA Board Member was awarded honorary membership to commemorate his long service to Essex PGA.   Jason Levermore was presented with the 2010 Order of Merit Trophy too.

1st Wes Wray (Three Rivers) and Andy Pestell (Chelmsford) 62

Joint 2nd Mark Stokes (Rayleigh DR) and Christian Foreman (Rochford) together with Paul Barham (Stockbrook Manor) and David Wood (St. Clere's) 66
